The World Martial Arts Masterships Committee (WMC) launched the 1st National Martial Arts Masterships Committee Workshop (NMC) as part of the “WMC-UP” program.
The event was hosted online for 2 days from 16-17 June 2022 and was opened by Governor of Chuncheonbuk-do Province and President of WMC Si-Jong Lee. Governor Lee welcomed all NMCs and said: “The NMC Workshop was created to rightfully invite and serve the WMC family and beyond. In order to increase engagement among NMCs and to provide opportunities for knowledge sharing for future applicants who are interested in establishing their own NMC. I sincerely welcome your continued support and attention towards developing the world of martial arts.”
The event was joined by UTS President Stephan Fox, who gave a warm welcome and shared his support for the innovation and WMC commitment to develop Martial Arts community around the world.
UTS CEO Julia Govinden moderated the panel discussion “How Martial Arts contributes to Inclusion” with special guests Michal Buchel the CEO of FIAS and Espen Lund Vice President of WAKO.
The discussion focused on a variety of topics including how the UN Sustainable goals guide development, values of martial arts, martial arts as a tool for rehabilitation, successful projects and what NFs can do to encourage social inclusion.
UTS CEO Julia Govinden said: “This event is a perfect opportunity to embrace differences, cultivate community and understand realistically what can be done to nurture more inclusive communities.”
Other event topics included Governance, Mental Training, the upcoming Ulaanbaatar World Youth Martial Arts Masterships and an NMC Meeting for all participants. The workshop provided learning opportunities for NMCs to enable effective dissemination of the Masterships Movement, the setting of priorities to define methods of best support practises as well as integrating and implementing innovative strategies to improve cooperation between WMC and NMCs.
UTS signed a memorandum of understanding with the WMC in August 2019 during the 3rd World Martial Arts Leaders Forum towards the promotion of inclusion, equality, non-discrimination, and peace through Martial Arts. The signing was witnessed by former 8th UN Secretary General Ban Ki Mood, President of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundations Dr Chungwon Choue and IOC Member Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul.
